Creating A Bright, Airy Bathroom Without A Window Is Possible
Our ensuite bathroom was dirty, cringy, and very dark. The wallpaper looked dirty and the tile was strangely stained around the toilet. It was very questionable, but that is what happens when you buy a house that hasn’t been touched since the 70s. I was very excited to tear this thing apart.
Seriously, look at the difference. One looks like a dark cave, the other like a small spa. Natural light is hard to replace, but some recessed lighting sure can make a difference.
Its incredible too since we went with a dark green paint color for the vanity. It still turned out so airy, we love it!
Bathroom Tile
Our photo taking skills were lacking on this project. This was the first photo we took during the renovation. We missed taking photos of the demo, which I blame on the wallpaper. The wallpaper has been attached to that wall for 40+ years so it wasn’t going to down without a fight. Once it was down we had to mud big sections of the wall due to damage from removing the wallpaper.
Then we installed these most beautiful shower tile! Zellige tile never disappoints and this is no exception. After researching a few places we purchased the tile from The Home Depot as it was the most reasonably priced tile. We found a beautiful 4×4 zellige style tile here.
Seriously, it came out even better then we anticipated. And since we splurged a little on the shower tile, we went with a cheaper 12×24 greige tile in a herringbone style lay. The tile we used is no longer available but you can find look-alikes at good prices very easily at The Home Depot or Lowes.
Vanity, Mirrors, Light Fixtures, & Shower Hardware
I wish I could direct you to exactly where we purchased this vanity. In truth we found it on marketplace with some dings and dents. We patched it up and painted it with Benjamin Moore Topsoil. If you are planning to repaint an old vanity, I would definitely recommend this color. It goes beautifully with the gold fixtures and cream shower and floor tones.
As for the mirrors, lights, and shower hardware there I can help you. We purchased all from Amazon. The mirrors were a 35.4 x 23.6, Modern Metal Frame-Wall Mirror. We really loved the size of these mirrors.
We wanted matching faucets but needed something that was single hole. While we could have drilled two additional holes on either side of the single hole, we really didn’t want to take the extra step and found these single hole gold faucets that gave the room a modern spin.
The 2-light fixtures tied the room together beautifully! They also gave off that warm light the room desperately needed!
Finally, we went with this rainfall shower head with a pressurized handheld sprayer. We always wanted to try a rainfall shower head and it did not disappoint. But I don’t think I would go with a rainfall shower head without the pressurized handheld sprayer. It was really the best of both worlds.
Other items include these 7″ bar pulls and these beautiful baskets for under the vanity. They were the true stars of storage for this bathroom. We kept towels in one, toilet paper and toiletries in another, and hair products in the last one.
